Prevent Racial Profiling in King County!
Why hasn’t the King County Council scheduled a hearing on an important proposal that will make our county safer and healthier? We will gather on June 24th at 9:00 a.m. at the King County Council to ask the Councilmembers this question directly and present a petition. Please sign the petition today and ask that the Council give this important ordinance a hearing.

Sign the Pledge to Protect all Washington Families
People who know LGBT families are more likely to support laws that protect all families. Whether you are in a same-sex relationship or are a supporter of equality, take this pledge to talk to your friends, families and neighbors about protecting all families in Washington state. All families deserve fairness!

Domestic Partnership
While we continue to work for marriage equality for same-sex couples, we want to thank Governor Gregoire and legislators for extending the rights and responsibilities available to registered partners.

Fair Play in Community Sports
Thanks to your support, all athletes in community sports will have equal access to facilities and equal opportunities to play. Federal and state law has long required schools to treat boys and girls equally when it comes to sports. And now Washington will require that athletes in community recreation programs have the same protections against discrimination. Please thank Governor Gregoire and legislators for adopting this bill.

End the Constitution-Free Zone
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency is supposed to secure the U.S. border. But in recent months they have set up checkpoints on the highways of the Olympic Peninsula and at the Anacortes ferry terminal — miles away from the border. Typically, the agents question drivers and passengers about their citizenship. The ACLU opposes these checkpoints as an infringement on people's right to travel freely. Please sign our petition opposing Border Patrol actions inside our border as abuses of our civil liberties and a waste of physical and financial resources. We will send the signed petition to our elected officials in Congress.

My Car, My Privacy
Thanks to all your emails this bill is now law. You have new protections for privacy when you drive. Owners and drivers now can use the latest technology in their cars without worrying that information about their driving habits will be collected and shared without their knowledge and consent. Please thank Governor Gregoire and legislators for adopting this bill.

Voting Rights Restoration
The state currently has a very complicated, confusing process for restoring voting rights to citizens with felony convictions. Thanks to your help, the ACLU has helped pass legislation to automatically restore the right to vote to people who have come out of the criminal justice system, and our Governor has signed it into law. Restoring the right to vote encourages people to reconnect with their communities and reduces the risk of people reoffending. Thank the legislature and the Governor for taking this important step.
