Make Marijuana Laws Smarter
The ACLU of Washington supports legislation that reclassifies possession of no more than 40 grams of marijuana from a misdemeanor to a civil infraction carrying a $100 penalty that can be paid by mail. Ask your legislators to support marijuana decriminalization in the 2010 legislative session.

Prevent Racial Profiling in King County!
Ordinance 2009-0393 will ensure that King County employees will not ask about an individual’s immigration status unless specifically required to do so by federal or state law. This ordinance will make our communities safer and healthier by encouraging all residents to cooperate with authorities in fighting crime without fear or intimidation, to seek preventive health care that protects the wellness of all county residents, and to work with the county officials. Urge Councilmembers to oppose racial profiling by supporting this ordinance!

End the Constitution-Free Zone
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency is supposed to secure the U.S. border. But in recent months they have set up checkpoints on the highways of the Olympic Peninsula and at the Anacortes ferry terminal — miles away from the border. Typically, the agents question drivers and passengers about their citizenship. The ACLU opposes these checkpoints as an infringement on people's right to travel freely. Please sign our petition opposing Border Patrol actions inside our border as abuses of our civil liberties and a waste of physical and financial resources. We will send the signed petition to our elected officials in Congress.
